The Department of Biotechnology offers B.Sc., M.Sc., and M. Phil., programmes in Biotechnology. It has committed teachers to guide students. It has a very spacious and well-equipped laboratory with air-conditioned, centralized instrumentation room. It has imported Instruments like Fluorescent /Phase Contrast / Dark Field Microscope, Sonicator, UVSpectrophotometer, PCR, Vacuum Concentrator, Cold Room facility for Downstream Processing, and CO 2 Incubator as per the norms of Bharathiar University . Separate air-conditioned Animal, Plant and Microbial cell culture rooms with sophisticated Instruments support all biotechnology research needs. The laboratory has an animal house for the maintenance of experimental animals. It has a separate preparation-cum washing room for B.Sc. and M.Sc. students. The imported instruments are connected to computers for biological and biochemical data analysis by using Bio Statistics Software. Gel Documentation System and Microscope Photography enable the student to visualize and store results in digital formats for further scientific publications. Well-equipped instrumentation room provides individual hands-on working experience to all budding Biotechnologists. Both the undergraduate and Postgraduate programmes prepare students to make them fit to join R&D laboratories, Biotech Companies, academic streams etc.

Activities of EXONS:
- Organizes guest lectures & seminars in major areas of Biosciences.
- "One day personality development program" is being organized for I UG & I PG
students to address their overall personality development.
- Experts from various research institutes and industries provide hands on experience to the PG students of biotechnology by workshops.
- I year UG & PG students are exposed to various Bioindustries by industrial visits.
- Our students actively participating in various inter collegiate Bioscience Competitions
conducted by other colleges and Universities.
Curricular and Co-curricular Activities:
The Department offers the three-year undergraduate B.Sc. Biotechnology programme, as well as the M.Sc. Biotechnology programme, under the credit-based choice system, with Autonomous curricula and syllabi.
The Department conducts seminars and workshops regularly on the emerging biotech-related research areas for the benefit of students and faculty members. Over the years faculty members have also been encouraged to attend off-campus programmes (workshops/ seminars/ conferences/ faculty-development programmes). The following programmes were conducted during the period 2007-2009:
- International Seminar on Recent trends in Agricultural Biotechnology & Higher Educational Opportunities in Biosciences, on 2nd March 2009
- Workshop on Bioinstrumentation on 29th and 30th Sept. 2008
- Workshop on Molecular Techniques on 14th Oct 2008.
Extra curricular:
A number of the Biotechnology students are involved in various on-campus as well as off-campus extra-curricular activities, and have represented the college in sports, athletics and dance.
