The Department of Biochemistry offers B.Sc. programme in Biochemistry with a diploma in Biotechnology/Plant Biotechnology. It has a team of highly qualified and efficient teachers. The department has a spacious and well equipped laboratory with an air-conditioned instrumentation room and various instruments like UV/Visible spectrophotometer, Tissue Homogeniser, laminar air flow chamber, Refrigerated centrifuge, Electrophoresis units, PCR,ELISA reader, Flame photometer, Fluorimeter, Deep freezer, etc. The department also has an excellent library. The department has consistently achieved 100% results in the university examinations. Ample practical exposure in terms of workshops and seminars are given to the students through various resource persons. The students are also encouraged to undergo training in hospitals and research institutes. They are taken for industrial visits to places like Trivandrum , Jaipur, Darjeeling , etc. Our extension activities include blood grouping camps for students and the rural public. Additional programmes in personality development and soft skill training prepare the students for their career/future. Our students have been well placed in various industries and institutes.

Dr. Ram Rammohan, M.Sc., M.S., Ph.D.
HOD-in-Charge, Department of Microbiology and Bioinformatics
Dr. Rammohan has over 20 years of teaching and research experience, including 4 years industrial experience. Dr. Rammohan obtained his doctorate in Interdisciplinary Biomedical Sciences from Northeastern University, Boston, USA. His research areas include design & development of liposomes / microspheres for tissue targeting and imaging, and drug delivery to tumors and tissues. Dr. Rammohan was responsible for establishment of research facilities for Millipore Life Sciences and Membrane R&D divisions (currently Biosciences) in Bangalore, India, which serves this multinational company in product validation, applications and technical support. Dr. Rammohan was a faculty member in the Dept. of Pharmaceutical Sciences, and the Dept. of Medical Laboratory Science, Northeastern University, Boston, where he had earlier completed his Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship in the Laboratory of Advanced Pharmaceutical Research. He was also a Member, Curriculum Design & Development Committee, Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Northeastern University, Boston. He is a Life Member of various scientific Associations, and is a Member of the Phi Kappa Phi Interdisciplinary Honor Society since 1998. He has published and presented over 30 research articles, and is the author of 3 chapters in a monograph on Rheumatic Fever, brought out by the American Registry of Pathology, Washington D.C. He was a co-awardee of the Berson-Yalow Award (Scientific Paper No. 262) at the 48th Annual Meeting of the Society of Nuclear Medicine, 2001. His research work also won the ASNC-6 Young Investigator Award at the 6th Annual American Society for Nuclear Cardiology Symposium and Scientific Session (ASNC-6), 2001. Dr. Rammohan is a Freelance Editor and Proof-Reader for various scientific books.

Activities
The department pursues extension activity - blood grouping for the school students and rural communities. Our graduates are not just academically prepared but they are also made to take part in various co-curricular activities which make them ready to take the challenges in life.
